ZUUSE REVOLUTIONISES PYRMONT BRIDGE OPERATION
& MAINTENANCE WITH 3D BIM SOFTWARE

The Pyrmont Bridge was opened in 1902 and has been a major Sydney landmark ever since. The heritage listed structure has now established itself as a 21st century forerunner in asset management, deploying Zuuse to operate and manage the bridge using a 3D model.

Prior to Zuuse implementing their leading 3D BIM Software for the Pyrmont Bridge, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA) faced significant challenges.

One major challenge was a lack of documentation. Drawings in particular were all paper-based and due to changing hands several times over the years many were lost. Furthermore, RMS Building Inspectors had to undertake the annual condition assessment process of the 7500+ structural components of the bridge via a manual paper-based process consisting of paper, pens and digital cameras.

Now, the SHFA has a 3D model and the technology that has taken a three month reporting process to one that is now automated and instantaneous.

“We can see potential savings of 15 – 25 per cent off various parts of a project resulting from this. There is no reason why similar benefits cannot flow to the asset owner during the operational phase.”
Jason Lilienstein, CEO Zuuse

Pivotal to the project was Zuuse Capture, a mobile app which captures the condition of the bridge with the data automatically linking back to the 3D model to help plan maintenance and remedial work more effectively.

The mobile app, developed for all major mobile platforms, is a flexible online/offline inspection and data capture tool for use with the FM BIM Solution. In line with the solution’s ability to define new data structures for emerging requirements, the mobile app has been developed with similar flexibility in mind.

The interface can be customised based on the information to be captured with the placement screen elements such as logos, fields and photo filmstrips all user definable.

Uses:

  • Condition assessment inspections
  • Capturing electricity meter readings
  • Incident reports
  • AS1851 fire protection system inspections

Users can enter data that has been requested in an offline mode and then sync the data back to the Core database and 3D model when in network range.

Alternatively, data can be entered on the fly, such as with incident or fault reporting that is subsequently fed back to Zuuse Core. The ability to take and upload photographs easily and seamlessly is integrated into the solution.
